Former Ghanaian Football Icon, Asamoah Gyan, has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to clarify its much-touted 24-hour economy policy, describing it as a concept that already exists in certain sectors of the country.
Speaking during an Instagram live session on Thursday, January 2, Gyan questioned the novelty of the policy, which was a key campaign message that contributed to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
“It already exists. Police stations, hospitals, and filling stations already operate on a 24-hour basis,” Gyan remarked. “If the government says ‘24-hour economy,’ they should focus on improving it. It’s not a new policy.”
Gyan, who was previously part of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team before stepping away from active politics, emphasized the need for the NDC administration to outline actionable steps to enhance the existing framework rather than presenting it as a groundbreaking initiative.
The NDC’s 24-hour economy agenda has sparked public debate, with some commending the vision while others share Gyan’s skepticism about its originality and implementation.
