The race for the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat remains on a knife’s edge as the Electoral Commission (EC) temporarily halts the final declaration of results.
Following a re-collation exercise on Saturday at the EC's old head office, the results show:
Elikplim Akurugu (NDC): 50,732 votes
Amb. Mike Ocquaye Jnr (NPP): 50,567 votes
With a narrow margin of just 165 votes separating the two candidates, the constituency’s final outcome hinges on a decisive vote at the Abokobi Women Development Polling Station, the only polling station yet to conduct its election.
A total of 689 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots at this polling station, a number significant enough to potentially swing the results in favor of either candidate.
The tense re-collation process underscores the critical role of every single vote in this highly competitive election.
The EC has assured stakeholders of a free, fair, and transparent process at the outstanding polling station to ensure the will of the people is accurately reflected.
Voters in Abokobi are now at the center of national attention as they prepare to decide between Elikplim Akurugu of the NDC and Amb. Mike Ocquaye Jnr of the NPP in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely contested races in the country.
The Electoral Commission is yet to announce the date for the election at the outstanding polling station.
