Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been officially sworn in as Ghana’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President John Dramani Mahama.

Thee swearing-in was held on Friday at the Jubilee House, Accra.

This follows the ousting of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office on Thursday.

Dr. Dampare’s dismissal marks a significant shake-up within the Ghana Police Service.

While no official reason has been provided for his removal, sources suggest that the decision forms part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at reshaping the leadership and operational strategy of the country’s law enforcement agency.

Dr. Dampare, who was appointed IGP in 2021, is credited with implementing key reforms within the police service.

Under his leadership, the Ghana Police Service introduced several initiatives to improve public trust, enhance community engagement, and strengthen internal discipline.

His tenure saw a notable reduction in crime rates and increased accountability within the force, earning him praise from security experts and the general public.

With COP Christian Yohuno now at the helm, expectations are high regarding the future direction of the Ghana Police Service.

COP Yohuno, known for his extensive experience and strategic approach to policing, is expected to build on the reforms initiated by his predecessor while addressing emerging security challenges.
