COVID-19: ECG Outlines Implementation Guidelines On Electricity Relief For Lifeline Customers

The Management of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed following President Akufo-Addo's directive, the Government of Ghana (GoG) will absorb 100% electricity bills for lifeline residential customers (customers who consume between 0-50kWh) per month from July, 2020 till the end of year.

According to the ECG, lifeline customers on both postpaid and prepaid metering systems will realise their relief effective August, 2020 to January, 2021.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, it said "Lifeline Prepaid Customers i.e customers on smart prepaid meters will be automatically be credited each month with their free lifeline units. Customers on non-smart prepaid meters will have to visit their vending points to recharge in order to receive their free lifeline units for each month"

The statement on lifeline postpaid customers hinted their bills from August, 2020 will indicate the GoG absorption of their lifeline consumption.

The Management however assured lifeline customers and stakeholders that it is resolved to implement the directive to the letter.
