The son of renowned preacher, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, has been sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center following his conviction for manslaughter.
The tragic incident, which occurred in East Legon, resulted in the deaths of two passengers after the teenager crashed into another vehicle.
Initially pleading not guilty to charges of manslaughter, dangerous driving, negligently causing harm, and driving without a license, the teenager later changed his plea to guilty, leading to his conviction.
In addition to the sentence, the court directed the teen to report to probation officers biweekly and sign an undertaking not to drive until he reaches the legal age of 18.
The court also imposed penalties on his parents, fining them 500 penalty units each (equivalent to GH¢6,000) for failing to supervise their son.
Furthermore, they were ordered to compensate for damages caused during the accident, including a light pole valued at GH¢8,000.
This case highlights the importance of responsible parenting and adherence to road safety laws, especially concerning underage drivers.
