The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the Council of State elections for the North East and Ashanti Regions on February 17.

According to the EC, the decision to rerun the election in the North East Region follows a tie between two candidates, each securing six votes.

In the Ashanti Region, the rerun became necessary after chaos erupted during the counting of ballots, causing the process to be abruptly halted and left incomplete.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the EC disclosed that it has formally requested the Ghana Police Service and copied the National Election Security Taskforce to intensify security at the election venues.

The move, according to the Commission, is to ensure peace and order during the rerun and prevent any disruptions.

The EC assured all stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election.
