Explosion at Konongo Mining shops kills one, injures several

A devastating explosion at a shop dealing in mining explosives at Odumase, near Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, has claimed one life and left several others, including firefighters, injured.


The incident occurred in a store housing dynamites and other explosives, causing extensive damage to nearby structures and resulting in severe injuries to victims.


Confirming the tragic event, Divisional Officer Grade 2 Joe Bryden, the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Fire Commander, disclosed that the deceased was a resident who tried to alert firefighters about the impending danger.


“He was attempting to warn the firefighters to retreat, but before he could get to safety, the explosion occurred. He suffered severe injuries, and I have received confirmation of his passing,” DO Bryden stated.


Emergency response teams, including fire personnel and police, are on the ground to assess the situation.


Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and the extent of damage to lives and property.


Safety concerns have been raised, as the blast happened just meters away from a fuel station, increasing fears of further risks.
