In a bold statement on the need for genuine anti-corruption measures, former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has underscored that fighting corruption in Ghana demands courage and principle.
According to Mr. Mahama, these qualities are what the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration are lacking.
Speaking during a campaign tour, Mahama highlighted Ghanaians' rising desire to hold public officials accountable, emphasizing that this demand is not a "quest for witch hunting" but a sincere push for transparency in public office.
He argued that building a culture of accountability means allowing systems to function independently and ensuring that public officeholders who betray the trust placed in them face the full weight of the law.
"Our people need to see those entrusted with public funds held accountable," Mahama said, noting that his administration would prioritize merit-based appointments and implement transparent practices to rebuild public trust.
Taking a swipe at the current administration, he stated, "Fighting corruption requires courage and principle – values the people see as missing under this government."
He assured that, under his leadership, there would be renewed focus on strengthening anti-corruption institutions, advocating for an environment where transparency thrives without interference, and public officials are held to account.
