Fire guts part of Kantamanto market

Fire broke out at part of Accra's Kantamanto Market on Thursday, around 1am, causing extensive damage to the area.

Over 100 shops have been destroyed, impacting numerous traders and their livelihoods.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly, deploying 13 fire tenders from across the Greater Accra Region to combat the blaze.

Firefighters have been working tirelessly to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Kantamanto Market is a major hub in Accra's central business district, known for its extensive trade in secondhand clothing and other goods.

This incident marks another devastating blow to the market, which has experienced similar fires in the past, notably in December 2020.

Local authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency response efforts.

Traders and shop owners are advised to stay in touch with market leaders and local officials for information on recovery and support measures.

As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
