A tragic road accident on Friday morning has claimed four lives and left over twenty others injured when a bus traveling from Takoradi to Accra overturned near the Aggrey Memorial School intersection in Cape Coast.
The vehicle, a passenger bus with registration number GW 6231-21, was carrying 53 passengers when it fell on its side at approximately 6:48 a.m., trapping several occupants.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), police, and ambulance services collaborated to rescue the passengers.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Abdul Wasiu Hudu, confirmed the incident and said the injured were rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for treatment.
“Unfortunately, four passengers were confirmed dead at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while 23 others with varying degrees of injuries are receiving medical care,” Mr. Hudu stated.
Nine passengers who sustained minor injuries have been treated and discharged.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident to prevent future occurrences.
