GNPC Hands Over Astroturf To Adiembra Community (Pictures)

Ahead of its formal commissioning, the GNPC Foundation, on Monday February 8, conducted the technical handing over of the newly constructed Astroturf facility at Adiembra in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis. Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, in a short presentation, thanked the contractor, W360 Construction Ltd, for the good work done.

“The beginning of every project can be daunting but the outcomes, when diligently done, are rewarding and that’s exactly what we’re witnessing at Adiembra today,” he said. Dr. Eduah stated that community development transcends disciplines and is multifaced. “A more holistic approach to identifying challenges and proffering solutions would mean considering the dynamic character of communities and tailoring interventions aimed at yielding longer-lasting impact and such is what informed our decision to help hone the existing football and sporting talents in an area known to be blessed with same in abundance.”

He added that it is GNPC’s expectation that the facility would, among other things, inspire the youth of Adiembra and adjoining communities to, beyond the recreational value of the facility, accept it as an opportunity to train on a standard FIFA turf and as a credible path to achieving their dreams and creating wealth for themselves, their families and community. Accepting the facility, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Abdul-Mumin Issah, expressed his gratitude for the impressive facility which comes with a fence, floodlights, and a technical sitting area.

The MCE said Sekondi-Takoradi has produced several football talents who have advanced in their careers to become national heroes and international stars but also admits to existing infrastructural gaps which hampers the development of talents especially at the community and grassroots levels in more recent years and therefore making it difficult for young people to sharpen their talents. “It is therefore refreshing to have GNPC devote resources to providing such amenities to improve the overall quality of the sports of football across communities,” he said. He encouraged other organizations and development agencies to partner with the Assembly in bringing sustainable growth to the people.

Also present at the event were unit committee members, community leaders, and residents of Adiembra.
