Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed that the recent raid on the private residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, was sanctioned by his office and carried out within the legal framework of the country.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, saw armed National Security operatives, some masked and wielding guns, storming Dr. Addison's residence.

Reports indicate that the operatives overpowered private security personnel before conducting a thorough search of the property.

Speaking in an interview on an Accra-based television network on Thursday, Justice Srem-Sai justified the government's decision to authorize the operation, stressing that all legal procedures were followed.

"We take responsibility for the search, and we want to make it clear that those searches and the mode in which they were done were done in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and the warrants were used to conduct those searches," he stated.

Justice Srem-Sai also reaffirmed the government's commitment to fighting corruption and recovering stolen state assets.

"I would like to assure the public that we are, as much as we can, pursuing persons who are believed or are suspected to have looted state assets, being money or other properties. We are committed and work is going on day and night for that to be done," he added.

The Deputy Attorney General further emphasized that the government remains committed to upholding the rule of law in such operations.

"Most importantly, we are also doing so within the framework of the rule of law, because as you may know, there have been instances in the past where persons who are suspected have been treated, have been arrested in manners that don't comply with the rule of law, where violation of human rights and other laws have been broken just because people are suspected," he noted.

The raid has sparked political tension, with critics questioning the heavy-handed nature of the operation and the underlying motivations behind the government's actions.

Some political observers argue that the move could be part of a broader strategy to target figures linked to the previous administration.

However, government officials have maintained that the raid was purely a legal exercise aimed at holding individuals accountable for alleged financial misconduct.

The fallout from the operation is expected to dominate political discourse in the coming days as opposition voices demand greater transparency and accountability.
