"Heed to the voices of conscience" - Asiedu Nketiah to Electoral Commission

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its calls for a forensic audit of the country’s voter register.

According to the party Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Electoral Commission (EC) ought to heed to the voices of conscience.

Speaking to a massive crowd on Tuesday, following a major demonstration dubbed the "Enough is Enough" Demo, Chairman Asiedu Nketiah described the protest as the largest in the nation’s history, sending a strong message to the EC Chair, Jean Mensa.

The demonstration, which saw hundreds of NDC supporters flooding the streets, was aimed at pressuring the EC to reconsider its stance on the voter register.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, emphasized that the NDC is committed to using lawful means to demand a forensic audit, which he believes is crucial for ensuring credible elections.

In his address, he also called on civil society organizations (CSOs) and international bodies to join the cause, urging them to press the EC into action.

He further appealed to Parliament, urging lawmakers to leverage their influence to ensure the demands are met, describing the issue of "illegal voter transfers" as a major concern.

The NDC officially petitioned Parliament and the EC, outlining several demands, including:

1. A bipartisan probe into the voter register.

2. Immediate publication of any forensic audits conducted.

3. Post-audit corrections of unauthorized voter transfers.

4. A revised timetable for electoral activities.

5. Convening of an urgent meeting between political parties, CSOs, and international stakeholders like the UNDP, US Embassy, and EU.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah stressed the importance of addressing these issues to prevent future manipulation of the electoral process, declaring that the time for the EC to act is now, as the credibility of future elections hangs in the balance.
