Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has announced that she will not seek re-election in the constituency, citing her desire to pursue more challenging opportunities.
Speaking on an Accra-based television network on Thursday, Adwoa Safo stated that despite her devotion and sacrifices for the people of Dome-Kwabenya over the past 12 years, she feels it is time to move on.
“What I will say is considering the issues I have been through, considering how I have been treated in the constituency despite my devotion, sacrifices, and hard work, I don’t think so,” she said when asked if she would contest the Dome-Kwabenya seat again.
“I won’t. It will take my father to change my mind, I won’t. I have done 12 years and I have left a good legacy in the constituency. I am moving forward, and I am looking at bigger things,” she added.
Adwoa Safo revealed that she has her sights set on the speakership of Parliament, describing it as a higher and more challenging opportunity.
“I am looking at speakership, yes, I am looking at higher challenging opportunities,” she emphasized.
Touching on the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adwoa Safo expressed confidence that former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will return as the party’s flagbearer in the 2028 general elections.
“We are bringing Bawumia back,” she declared. “Dr. Bawumia is the best person, he has been marketed and we will market him. Every person deserves a second chance.”
She further stressed, “Nobody should come and tell us that we shouldn’t bring Dr. Bawumia… nobody is God… we had time for Nana Akufo-Addo and we will have time for Dr. Bawumia.”
Adwoa Safo’s remarks signal a shift in her political career as she seeks to reposition herself for a larger national role within the NPP and Ghanaian politics.
