Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew has opened up about the profound importance of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team to him and his family, emphasizing the deep-rooted connection they share with the sport.
Ayew made these heartfelt remarks during a lecture on sports psychology at the University of Ghana, where he used his illustrious career as a focal point.
Reflecting on the numerous sacrifices he has made for the Black Stars, the two-time AFCON finalist underscored his steadfast dedication to the national team.
As the son of football legend Abedi Ayew and nephew of former Black Stars forward Kwame Ayew, football is an integral part of his family’s legacy.
“The national team is so important to my life, my family’s life. While many prominent figures in Ghana have come through this esteemed university, our path has always been through football"
"Our life, my family, is about the game and from this country, not from anywhere else. So when we wear this jersey, for me, it’s all about sacrifices,” Ayew passionately stated.
In a touching moment shared with University of Ghana Psychology Lecturer Dr. Collins Agyemang Badu, Ayew added, “I don’t earn my living by wearing the national team colors. I wear these colors out of pride and honor.”
Currently a free agent, Ayew was absent from the Black Stars’ recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nonetheless, his unwavering commitment to the team is evident, as he views donning the national jersey as a matter of immense pride and honor, rather than a financial endeavor.
