Malik Basintale defends private security jobs initiative amidst NPP criticism

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has strongly defended the agency’s recent move to secure private security jobs for the youth, dismissing criticisms from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a post shared on his X page on Monday, March 17, 2025, Basintale described the NPP’s concerns as hypocritical, highlighting the government's failure to honor financial commitments to beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO).

"Last week, NPP members were busy criticizing YEA for securing 6,000 private security jobs for interested youth with well-negotiated salaries ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢2,500, depending on the assigned workstation," Basintale stated.

He questioned why the NPP would oppose a meaningful initiative when the Akufo-Addo government had previously celebrated the launch of NABCO despite its financial challenges.

"They have soon forgotten that a few years ago, Bawumia organized a whole funfair and jamboree to introduce NABCO, a flawed policy meant to pay graduates just GH¢700. Till date, they still owe NABCO trainees," Basintale added.

He clarified that all recruitment processes for the private security jobs are being handled strictly by private companies and cautioned job seekers against making any payments during the recruitment process.

NABCO, introduced by the Akufo-Addo-led government to address graduate unemployment, faced significant financial difficulties, with many trainees complaining of delayed or unpaid allowances.

Basintale’s remarks reflect growing political tensions as the YEA's new job initiative challenges the NPP’s record on employment and youth development.
