NDC Calls For Calm At Ejura

The Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is calling for calm between the security agencies and protestors in Ejura following the death of one of the convenors of the #FixTheCountry campaign group.

According to the NDC, it has learned with great sadness and shock, news from Ejura in the Ashanti Region, the killing and the causing of serious injuries to citizens who were protesting the murder of another citizen of the town yesterday.

In a statement signed by the Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah Esq, he said "Already there are reports of at least three persons dead and six hospitalized having sustained serious injuries. In view of the fluid security situation in Ejura, the National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and the General Secretary, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, who is currently participating in a workshop at Ada organized by the National Peace Council with sponsorship by the UNDP and the Commonwealth Secretariat, has left Ada and is proceeding back to Accra to take charge of developments."

The NDC, however, called on the security agencies to be measured in the way and manner in which they handle citizens who are exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to demonstrate to protect the lives of innocent citizens.
