Government Spokesperson for Governance and Security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing significant challenges in its 2024 election campaign, citing financial difficulties and a lack of a clear, resonating message.
Dr. Boakye Danquah argued that while the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is actively reaching out to voters with a strong campaign, the NDC is more preoccupied with creating controversies surrounding the Electoral Commission (EC).
He suggested that the opposition party’s inability to connect with the electorate is driving their calls for a forensic audit of the voter register.
“The NDC is aware that their campaign messages are not resonating with Ghanaians, and they fear losing in 2024,” Dr. Boakye Danquah remarked during an interview on Hot Morning Drive.
He further claimed that this lack of a compelling narrative has resulted in a decline in financial support for the NDC. “That’s why they keep making baseless allegations against the EC,” he added.
The NDC’s recent push for a forensic audit of the voter register stems from concerns over the transfer of voters' names to different constituencies, which they believe could suppress turnout in key areas.
They have also accused the EC of collaborating with the NPP to influence the election outcome.
In contrast, Dr. Boakye Danquah defended the NPP’s campaign strength, stating that the party enjoys support from loyal donors who help sustain its election efforts.
He emphasized that, unlike the NDC, the NPP has maintained financial backing and a clear message, which he believes will lead to a successful campaign.
As the 2024 elections draw closer, the NDC and NPP remain locked in a battle of campaign strategies, with both sides vying for the trust and votes of the Ghanaian electorate.
