The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Madam Akua Donkor, Founder and Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), who passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024.
In a statement released by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described Madam Donkor as a fearless figure in Ghanaian politics.
Since her rise to the national stage in 2012, she became well known for her dedication to public discourse, often delivering her messages in the Akan language, undeterred by her lack of formal education.
Madam Donkor’s contributions extend beyond the national political landscape.
She was an Assembly Member for her locality on multiple occasions and was a prominent voice for farmers, women, and the marginalized.
Her farming background and advocacy earned her respect across social and political divides.
By contesting for the highest office in the land, Madam Donkor joined a distinguished group of pioneering Ghanaian women who defied societal expectations to pursue leadership at the highest levels.
The NPP emphasized that her life should serve as an inspiration to all Ghanaians, regardless of gender, educational background, or social standing.
"If Madam Akua Donkor could do it, then all Ghanaian women can also rise to greater heights," the statement reads.
The NPP extends its heartfelt condolences to Madam Donkor’s family, especially her children, as well as members of the Ghana Freedom Party, the people of Afigya Kwabre, and all Ghanaians.
The party reflects on her legacy of fearless activism and commitment to Ghana's progress, urging that her memory should inspire future generations to contribute meaningfully to the nation's development.
