Police arrest Prophet Elisha Salifu Amoako and wife over son’s fatal car crash

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Prophet Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, parents of Elrad Salifu Amoako, the 16-year-old driver involved in a fatal accident that claimed two lives at East Legon on October 12.


According to ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, preliminary investigations have revealed that on the night of the accident, the suspect driver, Elrad Salifu Amoako, was driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20, along with one other occupant.


The vehicle rammed into a 4x4 Acura with registration number GR 2542-23, driven by Joseph Ackah, which had four other occupants.


The collision occurred on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon, and both vehicles caught fire, burning beyond recognition.


ACP Ansah-Akrofi further stated that while three of the five occupants of the Acura were rescued, two victims, identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12 years old, tragically lost their lives.


Of the rescued, two sustained minor injuries and have been treated and discharged, while the third remains hospitalized for further medical attention.


Elrad Salifu Amoako and his passenger were also rescued from the burning Jaguar and are currently on admission in the hospital.


The parents of the suspect, Prophet Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, have been taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.


Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, led a team from the Police Management Board to visit the bereaved family and the injured at the hospital today to express their condolences and offer support.


The Police have assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served and closure is brought to the affected families.
