Prez. Akufo-Addo honours Dr. Bawumia, others at Ghana National Honours 2024

In a grand ceremony held in Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has conferred national honours on distinguished Ghanaians and institutions for their exceptional contributions to national development.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led the list of awardees, receiving the prestigious Order of the Star of Ghana - Officer Award for his meritorious public service.

Dr. Bawumia's recognition underscores his dedication to public service and his role in advancing Ghana's socio-economic growth.

Other notable awardees included Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia South, who received the Order of the Volta - Officer Award, alongside other government appointees and MPs such as Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Mavis Hawa Koomson for their distinguished services.

The creative arts sector also took center stage, with celebrated personalities such as Daddy Lumba, Kwaw Ansah, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, and Juliet Asante receiving accolades for their immense contributions to Ghana's cultural heritage.

The event also paid tribute to traditional leaders, educators, healthcare professionals, and members of the judiciary.

Notable honorees included Prof. Ato Essuman, Nana Susubiribi Krobea Asante, and posthumously, Marcus Garvey for his contributions to Pan-Africanism.

Instituted in 1960, the Ghana National Honours celebrate individuals and institutions excelling across various fields, including public service, health, education, and the arts.

A new category, the Presidential Honours for Distinguished Service, introduced in 2023, continued this year to recognize efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo lauded the awardees for their resilience, sacrifice, and dedication, stating, "Today, we honour those whose efforts have shaped our nation and inspired others to contribute to Ghana’s progress."

The ceremony reflects the nation's commitment to acknowledging and celebrating excellence across all sectors of society.
