The Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Dr. Joseph Whittal, has condemned the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, for allegedly distributing food during Monday's special voting exercise.
Dr. Whittal labeled the act as highly inappropriate and a potential threat to the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
“I know the Member of Parliament has denied it, but it is not right to treat, treat as in the legal term, to share food, to share money, to anybody in the queue in preparation to vote, because it is tantamount to corruption and an integrity issue,” Dr. Whittal emphasized.
The CHRAJ Boss expressed concern that such actions could undermine public trust in the democratic process, urging political actors to maintain ethical standards during elections.
Dr. Whittal’s remarks come at a time when Ghana is preparing for a critical electoral period, with heightened calls for transparency and fairness in all aspects of the voting process.
This condemnation follows reports of incidents during the special voting exercise, as Ghanaians prepare to head to the polls on December 7.
