Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, visited the family of the late Francis Frimpong, affectionately known as "Pooley," and met with the management of Asante Kotoko to offer his condolences.

During the visit, he provided a monetary donation and relief items to support the bereaved family.

Minister Adams assured the club and supporters that those responsible for Pooley's tragic death would face justice, stating, "We will not just condemn the incident [Pooley's death] and leave it at that."

Background on Pooley and the Incident

Francis Frimpong, known widely as "Pooley," was a passionate supporter of Asante Kotoko.

He was renowned for his unwavering dedication to the club, often leading pre-match rituals and traveling with the team to away games.

Tragically, on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre, Pooley was fatally stabbed amid post-match violence.

The incident led to widespread mourning within the Ghanaian football community.

Authorities have since arrested seven individuals in connection with the case, including Nsoatreman FC's bankroller, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, who has been placed under a movement restriction order by the District Court “B” in Sunyani.

The autopsy report revealed that Pooley suffered a 1.6cm deep stab wound to the heart, leading to significant blood loss and his untimely death.

The football community continues to mourn the loss of a devoted fan, while calls for justice and improved security at sporting events have intensified.
