Nsoatreman Football Club has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, who was fatally stabbed behind the Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium following their league game on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement, Nsoatreman FC confirmed that the unfortunate incident stemmed from an altercation between two individuals, which reportedly began at a nearby drinking spot before escalating into violence outside the stadium premises.

“We have been informed that an argument had earlier happened between the deceased and the culprit at a nearby drinking spot, which later led to this stabbing incident behind the stadium,” the club stated.

The club strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that football should never be a battleground for violence.

“The game of football is not war, and as such, anyone who visits any stadium anywhere in this country must feel safe and indeed must be safe throughout the proceedings of the game,” Nsoatreman FC added.

The club assured its full cooperation with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.

“We urge all stakeholders to exercise restraint and support the relevant authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation into this rather regrettable incident,” the statement concluded.

The tragic event has cast a shadow over the Ghana Premier League, reigniting concerns about fan safety at football venues. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.
